EU adopts new regulations to boost energy efficiency of local space heaters
The EU Commission has approved new regulations aimed at reducing energy usage and enhancing repairability of local space heaters, including electric and fuel-based types like radiators and gas stoves.
These rules, replacing previous ecodesign measures, are projected to save 56 TWh of energy and 6.6 million tons of CO2 by 2040. Additionally, they are forecasted to save consumers €7.9 billion and create over 24,000 jobs by encouraging the manufacture of heating products that are more energy efficient.
The regulations broaden the scope of ecodesign, include previously excluded heaters, and mandate energy consumption limits for low-power modes. They also promote a circular economy by requiring manufacturers to provide spare parts for repairs.
