The recent €80 million financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) will allow Stadtbau-GmbH Regensburg to advance a €175 million investment programme aimed at expanding and modernising the city’s stock of social and affordable housing. The plan combines the construction of new buildings with the energy refurbishment of existing properties, to improve tenants’ quality of life, reduce energy costs and strengthen the stability of the local housing market. According to the published information, the initiative seeks to respond to growing residential demand, relieve pressure on low and middle-income households, and, at the same time, support the climate commitments of both Regensburg and the European Union.

The EIB’s backing will make it possible to accelerate actions without compromising the financial soundness of the municipal company, enabling large-scale interventions that incorporate stricter environmental standards. The strategy combines the creation of new flats with comprehensive improvements in already established neighbourhoods, promoting a more sustainable and resilient environment.
