European countries are facing growing challenges in the housing sector, including limited access to affordable homes, declining quality in new construction, and poor conditions in a significant portion of existing housing. Between 2015 and 2023, average house prices in the EU increased by nearly 50%.
In response, the European Union has placed housing high on its policy agenda. A newly appointed Commissioner for Energy and Housing is now tasked with developing a European Affordable Housing Plan and a broader strategy for housing construction, reflecting a shift in focus and commitment at the EU level.
To contribute to this dialogue, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE), in collaboration with the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA), will host a public conference on 13 November 2025. The event will explore how architectural and urban planning practices can support the creation of more accessible, sustainable, and high-quality housing across Europe.
