The European Commission’s forthcoming Citizens Energy Package, expected in March 2026, marks a pivotal step in advancing energy citizenship across the European Union. Aligned with the EU Climate Pact, the package aims to address energy poverty and empower vulnerable consumers, with a particular emphasis on supporting Energy Communities. By facilitating energy sharing, improving grid access, and closing the implementation gap, the initiative seeks to foster inclusive participation in the energy transition. In this context, Regional and Local Energy Agencies are emerging as key actors, offering technical support, engaging with Distribution System Operators (DSOs), and guiding energy communities from planning to implementation. Yet, a critical challenge remains: how can these agencies effectively support Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) in securing financing?

This webinar will convene EU representatives, Regional and Local Energy Agencies, and energy experts to explore this question. Participants will examine concrete financing opportunities and showcase practical solutions developed through real-life energy community projects. Drawing on the experience of organisations involved in EU-funded programmes, the session will highlight replicable business models and strategic approaches to investment. Co-organised by FEDARENE’s Working Group on Energy Communities and the LIFE Power-e-com project replication programme, this event offers a timely platform to strengthen the role of local actors in Europe’s democratic decarbonisation and to advance the implementation of the Citizens Energy Package.
