This event brings together citizens, local practitioners, businesses, and policymakers who are shaping the decarbonisation of Europe’s buildings. As EU countries advance the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), participants will hear insights from the European Commission, including a keynote by Mechthild Wörsdörfer, and opening remarks from BPIE’s Oliver Rapf. A dedicated session with EU policymakers — featuring Robert Nuij and others — will trace the EPBD’s journey from legislative vision to its impact on people’s homes and daily lives.

The programme highlights the practical realities of EPBD implementation through stories from local 'changemakers' and reflections from policymakers. Experts from the EPBD.wise consortium, including Lukas Kranzl, Fabio Zanghirella, and Francesca Conselvan, will provide an overview of key policy instruments such as renovation passports, minimum energy performance standards, and national renovation plans. A panel with national representatives from Romania, Poland, Czechia, and Portugal will share lessons from the transposition period, before the day concludes with closing statements and a networking reception.
