The Building Research Establishment (BRE) has launched a new version of its BREEAM certification for new buildings, incorporating more stringent and updated criteria in key areas such as lifecycle carbon footprint, biodiversity, sustainable materials, and climate resilience.

This update responds to growing pressure from governments, investors, and users for buildings to be not only energy-efficient but also environmentally responsible and adapted to climate change.

The new BREEAM standards aim to facilitate the transition towards a circular, low-carbon economy, aligning with global objectives such as those of the EU and the UK. Additionally, they are intended to provide developers with a more precise tool to measure and communicate the environmental impact of their projects.

With this revision, BREEAM reinforces its position as one of the most comprehensive certification systems, well-suited to the current sustainability challenges in the building sector.
