National Building Renovation Plans (NBRPs): progress and warnings

The European Commission publishes the first national renovation plans and puts pressure on Member States that miss key deadlines.

Editorial Team

The European Commission has published the first draft National Building Renovation Plans (NBRPs) received to date, outlining Member States’ roadmaps towards an energy-efficient and decarbonised building stock by 2050. At the same time, it has initiated infringement procedures against countries that failed to submit their plans before the 31 December 2025 deadline by sending letters of formal notice. The final plans are due by the end of 2026.

The Commission also provides additional information on the published documents, supporting tools and the process for preparing these plans.
