Smart Readiness Indicator: progress and experiences
The 4th joint event on the Smart Readiness Indicator brought together European experts to showcase how digitalisation and intelligence in buildings can drive energy efficiency, comfort, and flexibility within the energy system. The session can be watched again on video.
The 4th joint event on the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), held on 22 October 2025, gathered policymakers, building sector experts, European projects, and representatives from Member States to analyse progress and challenges in implementing this key EU indicator.
The meeting focused on the role of the SRI as a tool to assess buildings’ ability to integrate smart technologies, improving energy efficiency, user comfort, and interaction with energy systems. Throughout the day, practical experiences of national implementation were presented, showing how different countries are testing the SRI and what lessons have been learned so far.
In addition, several European projects funded by the LIFE programme showcased tools, methodologies, and solutions to facilitate SRI assessment and its possible integration with other existing instruments, such as Energy Performance Certificates. Discussions also addressed the costs and benefits of the SRI, as well as its contribution to the transition towards smarter, more flexible buildings prepared for a decarbonised energy system.
The full session can be watched online, providing access to all presentations and discussions shared during the event.
