Open source BonsaiBIM expands digital workflows for building information

BonsaiBIM provides an open‑source IFC authoring environment within Blender, offering tools for modelling, analysing and documenting building information using international standards.

Editorial Team

BonsaiBIM is an open‑source Building Information Modelling (BIM) platform integrated into Blender and developed by the IfcOpenShell community. It enables users to create, edit, and analyse IFC‑based building data, supporting tasks such as drawing generation, structural analysis, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) modelling, and facility management. The tool is designed to help practitioners work with detailed digital representations of buildings using the IFC standard.

The platform is available across major operating systems and has undergone continuous development. BonsaiBIM builds on the IfcOpenShell toolkit and is maintained by contributors from the architecture, engineering, and construction community.
