Copenhagen is exploring thermal flexibility as a key lever to move towards climate positivity, integrating buildings, users and energy networks into a more intelligent and adaptable system.

Copenhagen is progressing towards a more dynamic energy model on its path to climate positivity, incorporating thermal flexibility as a central element. Through the Flexumers4Future initiative, buildings cease to be passive consumers and become agents capable of adjusting their heating demand in response to energy system conditions.

This approach is supported by digital technologies that enable consumption to be coordinated with energy availability and the carbon intensity of the district heating network. The result is more efficient management that reduces demand peaks, optimises the use of renewables, and improves the system's overall performance.
