BuildON toolset aligned with EU Smart Readiness framework

New open‑source resources from BuildON facilitate Smart Readiness Indicator assessments by providing digital tools aligned with EU guidance for evaluating smart‑ready functions in buildings.

Editorial Team

The BuildON project has made available a set of open‑source tools designed to support the assessment of the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), the EU framework that measures a building’s capacity to use smart technologies. The SRI evaluates how technical systems can optimise energy performance, respond to occupants’ needs, and interact with the energy grid.

The tools published by BuildON align with the SRI methodology and complement existing digital resources referenced by the European Commission, including calculation sheets and guidance materials used in national test phases. They provide functionalities that help users interpret smart‑ready services across domains such as heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and monitoring and control.

These resources contribute to wider EU efforts to support the uptake of smart‑building technologies and facilitate consistent SRI assessments across Member States. They also complement ongoing initiatives under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive to promote digitalisation and improve building energy performance.
