Kaelo: free solar design and quoting software for PV installers

What once required site visits and manual work can now be completed in minutes. Kaelo uses national LiDAR data to create accurate 3D roof models, automatically designs solar installations, calculates PV performance with PVGIS, and generates all documents needed to prepare and track customer projects

Kaelo is a free design, quotation, and project management platform for residential solar installers in France. Starting from a customer's address, the tool automatically creates a detailed 3D model of the property and its surroundings using national LiDAR and building data, taking into account factors such as roof geometry and shading from nearby trees and buildings. This lets installers conduct an initial assessment remotely, without a site visit.

The platform then helps users design the optimal solar installation by automatically positioning panels on the most suitable roof surfaces, while allowing full manual adjustments to the system configuration. Based on PVGIS calculations, Kaelo estimates expected energy production and generates key project documents, including bills of materials, quotations, customer reports and financial analyses. Beyond the design stage, the platform also supports project delivery by helping installers manage planning, administrative procedures and site documentation.

Available through both a web browser and mobile apps, Kaelo streamlines the entire customer journey, from the first feasibility assessment to project completion. The same technology also powers Watoo, a free solar assessment tool designed for homeowners.
