World Green Building Council’s call to 2030
Discover how World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is driving the sustainable transformation of the built environment through global action, circular innovation, and climate leadership. A key report for understanding the future of the sector.
The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) reaffirms its leadership in the global transition towards a decarbonised and resilient built environment. With a network of 74 Green Building Councils representing over 47,000 members across 74 countries, WorldGBC has successfully scaled local action into global impact.
Over the past year, the network has influenced policy in 31 countries, certified 5.4 billion square metres of sustainable space, and published key reports such as 'The Circular Built Environment Playbook' and the 'Advancing Net Zero Status Report'. These initiatives provide concrete frameworks for circularity, energy efficiency, and social equity, reinforcing the sector’s role in achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
WorldGBC’s advocacy at COP28 and COP29, alongside strategic partnerships and funding programmes, has placed the built environment at the heart of climate action. Through initiatives such as Buildings Breakthrough and the #BuildingLife campaign, the Council has advanced national decarbonisation roadmaps and influenced European policy on whole life carbon. With just 2,000 days remaining to meet the 2030 climate targets, WorldGBC issues an urgent call for coordinated action across governments, industry, and civil society. Its message is clear: sustainable transformation is not only necessary—it is already underway.
