The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will lend up to €29.9 million to Brașov to support renovation of around 20 public buildings, including schools and administrative offices, under its Green Cities programme. The works will include thermal insulation, installation of heat pumps, and upgrades to building systems, aiming to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in line with EU climate objectives.

This financing marks the entry of Brașov into the EBRD Green Cities initiative. As next steps, the Bank will assist the city in developing a Green City Action Plan to guide further sustainable investments.

The loan to Brașov aims to establish the city as Romania’s green capital by improving the energy efficiency of public buildings, reducing emissions and energy consumption, and supporting its transition towards sustainability.
