Smart Readiness Indicator: paving the way to national regulation and markets
SRI2MARKET project shows how the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) can transform buildings into active players in the energy system, driving digitalisation, efficiency, and new market opportunities.
The report ‘Smart Readiness Indicator: paving the way to national regulation and markets’ presents the main results of the SRI2MARKET project, whose objective has been to facilitate the implementation of the Smart Readiness Indicator in the Member States and accelerate its integration into regulatory frameworks and the building market. The document brings together the experience of six pilot countries that have tested the methodology in different climatic, regulatory, and technical contexts, demonstrating that the SRI can become a useful tool to drive digitalisation, energy efficiency, and building flexibility.
The analysis confirms that acceptance of the SRI depends on its methodological clarity, alignment with energy performance certificates, and the existence of interoperable digital infrastructures. It also highlights that professional training is crucial: countries with structured training programmes have achieved more consistent assessments and a greater understanding of the indicator. National tests further show that the SRI can guide investments towards smart technologies, support the design of public incentives, and improve the information available to owners, managers, and public authorities.
The report notes that its implementation will require balancing national flexibility with European coherence, simplifying technical aspects, strengthening communication, and ensuring that the indicator is linked to measurable benefits in energy, comfort, and emissions.
