A pan-European low-carbon certification scheme for logistics buildings

This dossier brings together press releases, articles and interviews on Low Carbon Building Initiative Logistics, the new pan-European framework for assessing the whole-life carbon of logistics buildings.

Editorial Team

This press review from the Low Carbon Building Initiative (LCBI) brings together multilingual press releases, articles from specialist media and published interviews. The content focuses on the launch of LCBI Logistics, the extension of the pan-European low-carbon certification scheme to logistics buildings across ten European countries.

The dossier presents the main features of the new framework, designed to harmonise the measurement and comparison of carbon emissions from logistics buildings throughout their life cycle. The methodology considers embodied carbon, operational emissions and biogenic carbon storage, and incorporates limit values to assess building performance.

Its development involved stakeholders from the real estate and logistics sectors, while the methodology and its thresholds were tested on 18 pilot projects across Europe. The different contributions also highlight its connection with the evolving European regulatory framework, including the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), as well as its potential to facilitate comparisons between buildings and inform investment and decarbonisation decisions.
