The German funding scheme for district heating (BEW) in focus
Four years after its launch, Germany’s BEW scheme is accelerating investment in efficient, low-carbon district heating. This webinar will examine its impact, lessons learnt, and future potential, asking whether the German experience could provide a blueprint for Europe’s heat transition.
Details of the conference
Since its introduction in September 2022, Germany’s funding scheme for efficient heat networks (BEW) has supported the deployment, expansion and decarbonisation of district heating based on renewable energy and waste heat. Four years on, more than 3,800 projects have received funding, providing valuable experience of how public support can mobilise investment and accelerate the transformation of heat networks.
Bringing together perspectives from the German district heating sector, this webinar will take stock of BEW’s implementation and examine the lessons learnt to date. Speakers will explore the scheme’s contribution to Germany’s heat transition, the challenges encountered and its potential future development, while considering a broader question: could BEW provide a blueprint for accelerating the heat transition across Europe?
