Digitalisation transforms building management

Digitalisation can improve the performance of the building stock, but moving towards more autonomous buildings requires the integration of technologies, data and specialised knowledge through closer collaboration.

The digital transformation of the building stock requires particular attention to existing buildings, where the deployment of management systems remains limited. In an opinion article published in Facilities Dive, Susanne Seitz, CEO of Buildings Smart Infrastructure at Siemens, argues that collaboration between stakeholders will be crucial to accelerating this transition.

According to Seitz, connectivity, automation, data analysis and artificial intelligence can reduce energy consumption, anticipate failures and improve maintenance and comfort. Building digitalisation could reduce operating costs by between 10% and 17% and energy consumption by around 15%.

However, the author stresses that technology alone is not enough. Cooperation between facility managers, system integrators and technology providers is essential to adapt solutions to each building, integrate existing systems and progressively move towards more autonomous and efficient management.
