StreamSAVE Project: Streamlining Energy Savings Calculations
streamSAVE aims to assist Member States in their efforts to deliver rapidly scalable savings and increase their chances of successfully meeting energy efficiency targets under Article 3 and 7 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). A series of activities, divided into three categories, will be carried out with the intent of improving the energy saving methodologies capacities and skills of stakeholders across Europe.

Case Study – Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. Energy Management in Historical Buildings
When talking about historical heritage and energy efficiency, many actions may cross your mind: you may think of renovation works, improving insulation, repairing cracking, changing supplies, lighting... Any of these actions are valid, together with regular monitoring of consumption to analyse whether the measures taken are truly effective or not. In Europe, 35% of the building stock is more than 50 years old. Even if they are of a certain age, these buildings, of whatever type, are not considered historic. But of that 35%, a small percentage are buildings with decades or even centuries of history, and which deserve particular attention. In this article, some of the main features of energy efficiency projects in historical buildings are reviewed. The success story of the Art Nouveau Site of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is shared.

MicroRenew project: Dealing with Waste in a Sustainable Way
The EU-funded MicroRenew project will develop renewable Energy Micro Power Plant Using Organic Waste as Fuel. Traditional ways of dealing with organic waste are not sustainable. Urbanisation is putting too much pressure on landfills and making waste management too costly. To reverse this trend, future buildings could process their own organic waste while recapturing the energy, fertiliser and water from it.

GIFT is an innovative project that aims to decarbonise the energy mix of European islands. European islands have to abide by the law of their countries that push toward a greener energy mix to comply with the European and international agreements. GIFT is willing to develop innovative systems to allow islands to integrate vast amount of renewables.

G20 is renovating buildings too slowly to meet climate targets
A new report published by Oxford-based sustainability consultancy 3Keel for global insulation manufacturer Kingspan assesses the current need for building retrofits, recent progress, and policy commitments in G20 countries and G7 economies. Less than 1% of existing buildings in the major economies are receiving the necessary upgrade, refurbishment or retrofit each year.
