Details of the conference
The World Green Infrastructure Congress (WGIC), organised by the World Green Infrastructure Network and co‑hosted with the University of Lleida, will hold its twelfth edition from 27 to 30 October 2026 in Barcelona and Lleida. Under the motto 'Green infrastructure for a healthier and safer urban future', WGIC26 will examine how nature‑based solutions enhance urban health, well‑being and climate resilience. With the Mediterranean region facing rising temperatures and water scarcity, the congress offers a unique setting to explore innovative strategies for urban renaturalisation and climate adaptation.
The programme features two days of conferences in Barcelona — including five parallel sessions, international keynote speakers, specialised workshops and technical visits — followed by an optional day in Lleida dedicated to research and innovation. Since its first edition in Toronto in 2009, WGIC has become a global meeting point for researchers, professionals, public authorities and companies, driving progress in green roofs, façades, ecological corridors and sustainable urban drainage. WGIC26 represents a key opportunity to strengthen international collaboration and promote greener, healthier and more resilient cities.
