Heat Pump Monitor 2026
Heat Pump Monitor 2026
The IEA’s Heat Pump Monitor 2026 provides a data‑driven overview of global heat pump markets, examining deployment trends, enabling conditions and policy frameworks across regions and sectors.
The International Energy Agency has released the Heat Pump Monitor 2026, a comprehensive assessment of global and regional heat pump markets. Heating and cooling account for a substantial share of global energy demand and CO₂ emissions, and the report highlights the growing role of heat pumps in delivering secure, affordable and sustainable energy solutions. Despite recent growth, heat pumps currently meet less than 15% of heating demand in buildings worldwide, underscoring both the scale of the challenge and the potential for further expansion.
The Monitor centralises international data within a consistent analytical framework, offering insights into deployment trends, manufacturing capacity, trade flows and supply chain dynamics. It places particular emphasis on the buildings sector, where most installations occur, and examines factors such as affordability, energy security, industrial competitiveness and innovation. The report also outlines three policy‑based scenarios — current policies, stated policies and net zero emissions by 2050 — to assess future market trajectories.
A dedicated online tool complements the analysis with 20 interactive dashboards covering global deployment, regional perspectives and policy measures. These dashboards enable cross‑country comparison and provide evidence to support decision‑making for governments, researchers and industry stakeholders. The Monitor also highlights the importance of harmonised data, noting that differences in reporting standards hinder like‑for‑like comparison across regions.
