From bankability to alternative financing
From bankability to alternative financing
This webinar explores how social and affordable housing projects can secure financing despite limited bankability. It presents strategies to build a strong investment case and showcases alternative funding pathways through real European examples.
Details of the conference
Securing adequate financing for social and affordable housing remains a persistent challenge across Europe, particularly for cooperatives, SMEs, public bodies, and third‑sector organisations. Many projects struggle to meet traditional bankability requirements, despite addressing urgent social needs and delivering long‑term community value. As a result, promising initiatives often stall before reaching implementation.
This webinar explores how housing actors can strengthen their investment case and navigate the financial barriers that typically hinder construction and renovation projects. Participants will learn how to articulate project value, manage risk, and identify the conditions under which lenders and investors are willing to engage. The session also highlights alternative funding pathways that can complement or substitute conventional lending models.
Through real examples from across Europe, the event showcases innovative approaches such as socially driven financing, corporate sponsorship, community mobilisation, and EU‑level instruments like the Public Sector Loan Facility. Together, these cases demonstrate that even when full bankability cannot be achieved, viable routes exist to move essential housing projects forward.
