Building climate-resilient buildings in India
In the last years, India is experiencing more and more extreme heat conditions which are also affecting human survival. For this reason, the demand for cooling solutions are increasing exponentially. Although, accessibility to cooling is the lowest in the world.
In the past, climate played an important role when designing and building dwellings. However, with rise in population, land politics and space constraints resulted in less available outdoor spaces. Walls and insulations also grew thinner and with the increasing use of glass, dwellings have been built with bigger windows, leading to more heat gain.
Warm-humid climate necessitates constant air circulation to control humidity and heat. In some months, high relative humidity makes necessary the use of mechanical cooling systems (ACs) for thermal comfort.
