Building greener: sustainable solution and challenges in construction

The construction sector's significant environmental impact is being mitigated through sustainable practices, renewable materials, and green technologies, despite ongoing challenges like financial constraints and regulatory support.
Luca Papapietro

The construction sector is a major consumer of resources and energy, responsible for significant greenhouse gas emissions globally. It contributes 35% of global waste, with an environmental footprint driven by energy-intensive processes in mining, manufacturing, and construction.

Sustainable construction practices aim to mitigate these impacts by using renewable and recycled materials, decarbonising traditional materials, and adopting green technologies. Innovations like AI-driven waste analysis, modular construction, and adherence to green building standards are advancing sustainability.

Despite progress, challenges such as financial constraints and regulatory support remain, underscoring the need for continued efforts and supportive policies.
