The Planetary Health Check reports Earth is in 'critical condition,' with six out of nine Planetary Boundaries exceeded, increasing the likelihood of surpassing 1.5°C warming.

The built environment—buildings, infrastructure, and industrial facilities—contributes 40% of global CO₂ emissions, half of raw material use, and 40% of waste.

The WBCSD's Built Environment Market Transformation Action Agenda (MTAA) addresses these issues with 11 strategic actions focused on reducing emissions. Key actions include adopting life-cycle carbon assessment, integrating carbon costs in pricing, and encouraging low-carbon solutions

Collaboration among stakeholders, transparency, and standardised metrics are essential for achieving net-zero targets by 2050.
