The current global energy crisis has led to a surge of heat pumps installations across Europe and the world. This acceleration of heat pumps sales is particularly made by Europe where heat pump sales rose by 35% in 2021 (compared to global sales of 15%).

 

However, the International Energy Agency (IEA) emphasise the need to develop specific policies to support consumers in the high upfront costs and to train professionals for the installment and maintenance of this technology. IEA also reports the challenges that this surge has created, but also the potential solutions.
