Energy-positive buildings leading the way for a sustainable future

Energy-positive buildings are making the built environment more sustainable and are revolutionising the way we think of the built environment.
Giulia Leghissa

Energy-positive buildings generate more energy than they consume over their lifetime. Hence, they do not just reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources, but have the potential to drastically change the built environment.

Energy-positive buildings employ a combination of energy-efficient design, advanced materials, and renewable energy technologies which minimise the energy consumption, while maximising the energy performance. Concerning the design, these buildings are optimised in the orientation, insulation, and natural ventilation, in order to gain the benefits of "passive" energy efficiency.

The surplus of generated energy can be fed back to a grid or used to power neighbourhoods. This contributes to the overall resilience and sustainability of the local energy infrastructure.
