The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is distributing $160 million in grants to nearly 40 organisations to assess the environmental impact of construction materials such as aluminium, concrete, steel, and wood.

The aim is to support businesses in creating and verifying Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and to combat greenwashing.

Significant grants include $10 million each to the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment, to enhance life cycle assessment practices, and to the National Asphalt Pavement Association, to improve EPDs for asphalt mixtures.

The University of Washington and the Prestressed Concrete Institute also received nearly $10 million each for EPD development and lifecycle assessment improvements.
