EU Smart Readiness Indicator: Italy's test phase launch

Italy recently initiated the test phase for the EU Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), a tool designed to measure a building's ability to use smart technologies.

This initiative, introduced under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), led by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and supported by the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), aims to refine the SRI framework for Italy's context. The 12-month pilot will assess smart technologies, adapt the SRI service catalogue, and explore integration with Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)

The test phase will involve evaluations by ENEA experts, academic institutions, and trained assessors, covering at least 30 buildings across various use cases and climatic zones. The SRI rollout continues to gain momentum across Europe, with 16 EU countries now participating in national test phases. Early findings suggest that the SRI can help building owners prioritise smart technologies that enhance performance and support energy efficiency goals.
