The European Parliament aims to speed up the hydrofluorocarbons phase-out

Low GWP F-gasses had been seen by the industry as a way to transition from higher GWP and fossil fuel products in the process of decarbonisation.

The MEPs have strengthened their position on the phase-out of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by 2050 in order to install more climate-friendly solutions.

However, this decision has not been welcomed by all parties. In fact, manufacturers are worried that this change would harm the decarbonisation process since the total phase-out would include also F-gases with a very low Global Warming Potential (GWP), meaning that a number of heat pumps would be effectively banned in the next 3-5 years.
