How architects can support the achievement of net zero targets

The RIBA's 2023 Smart Practice conference centered on achieving sustainable outcomes via craft and materials, with themes of 'Specifying for the Future' and 'Working towards Net Zero.' It has been emphasised the architects' role in reducing upfront carbon costs through specifications and highlighted initiatives like the London Plan and Part Z proposal. 

Discussions delved into challenges like fossil fuel addiction and unsustainable resource consumption. Presenters urged architects to broaden their focus beyond emissions reduction, proposing strategies such as developing renewable materials and designing for longevity and adaptability
