How can human interactions and sensory technology make buildings more efficient?

The relationship between people and space is very important to make buildings energy efficient.

BREO (Building Resource Expression and Optimization) project aims to revolutionise building sustainability by engaging occupants in energy conservation. Traditional smart buildings focus on physical infrastructure, often neglecting the human-space relationship. BREO utilises sensory technology to create an interactive bond between occupants and buildings, communicating real-time resource usage through visual, auditory, and olfactory cues. This approach empowers individuals to make informed choices. Unlike detached automation systems, BREO encourages personal responsibility, enabling occupants to optimise resource usage by responding to sensory data. This project offers a human-centric perspective on building sustainability in the era of climate action.
