There are two low-carbon alternatives for your home: heat pumps and hydrogen boilers. Concerning heat pumps, there are two types to choose from: Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) absorbing heat from air and Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) absorbing heat from the ground. On average the cost of installing an heat pump is high, however it will result in lower bills in the future, particulary from the GSHP. In fact, heat pumps have the potential to save between £60 to £110 annually compared to a gas boiler.
In Europe, France, Italy and Germany are leading in terms of heat pump installations, whereas the UK is lagginig behind.
