Improving buildings efficiency with openDBL

Buildings are being upgraded with digital scans and sensors to improve energy efficiency and sustainability as part of the EU-funded openDBL project.
Luca Papapietro

In Ruvo di Puglia, Italy, a 1924 school is being upgraded with digital scans and sensors to monitor air quality and energy use. Part of the EU-funded openDBL project, this initiative replaces traditional building records with dynamic 3D models for better management and sustainability

Similar upgrades are planned for buildings in Spain and Greece. These digital building logbooks (DBLs) aim to support Europe's climate-neutral goals by 2050.

The project offers free online logbooks to facilitate energy-saving upgrades. Extending DBLs across Europe will enhance building maintenance, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation efforts.
