Integrating nature into building envelopes for sustainable urban design
The ECOLOPES project, led by Wolfgang Weisser from the Technical University of Munich, aims to create biodiverse and livable urban spaces by integrating nature into building designs.
Collaborating with international universities and industry partners, the project is developing an ecological model for architectural software to facilitate nature-inclusive design. This model uses extensive ecological data to simulate habitats for various organisms on building envelopes. The team envisions stable, low-maintenance ecosystems that coexist with urban environments.
Additionally, the project involves local communities, such as in Munich's Neuperlach district, to incorporate residents' input in designing green, sustainable buildings. An initial prototype is expected next year.
