On June 19th, the "NEB meets 39100 BZ+" event took place at NOI Techpark in Bolzano. This event aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing for creating a beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive city.

The organizers, New European Bauhaus of the mountains and 39100 BZ+, are local networks in the Autonomous Province of Bozen dedicated to citizen participation and promoting more sustainable cities.

The New European Bauhaus of the mountains is a network that includes the Autonomous Province of Bozen, Energy Agency CasaClima, Eurac Research, and UNIBZ, founded following the New European Bauhaus, a creative and interdisciplinary initiative craved by Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, aiming to connect the European Green Deal to our living spaces and experiences by three criteria (together, sustainable and beauty). NEB of the Mountains focuses on driving mindset transformations through awareness-raising activities and training on circular design, bioeconomy, and socio-ecological transition. It also aims to transform places, public spaces, and buildings in the mountains by implementing energy-efficient projects and socially acceptable solutions. The NEB of the mountains is recognized as one of the first NEB Lab projects at the EU level.

39100 BZ+ is a local initiative that brings together various associations to work on projects for a more sustainable and beautiful city. Their projects range from urban revitalization and co-designing neglected areas to cultural and educational initiatives involving schools and private citizens.

During the event, four important themes were presented and discussed:

  • affordable housing, innovative models for a good living
  • sustainable forms and concepts of mobility
  • role of "third space" and the temporary uses of dismissed and abandoned areas
  • value of participatory and inclusive processes.

Experts from public and private sectors were invited to present and moderate thematic workshops in which the local context was presented and analyzed by citizen (as city-users), experts, and public and private actors. These workshops analyzed the local context and proposed improvements, positive experiences, and innovative solutions.

In the second part of the event, the outcomes of the workshops were used as a starting point for the congress session. The goal was to transform the ideas generated into achievable visions with the help of experts. Multiple experts shared positive examples, innovative approaches, and different perspectives on sustainable mobility and city living, emphasizing their potential for sustainability, beauty, and inclusivity.

The event concluded with speeches and a round table where provincial councilors Alfreider and Vettorato, municipal councilor Fattor, Wolfram Sparber, and Marielle Scharfenberg shared their experiences and engaged with the audience.
