Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK, is pioneering research to enhance construction sustainability using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced waste management, funded by £250,000 from the European Commission.

Led by Dr. Pablo Martínez Rodríguez, the project targets better recycling, reduced landfill use, and circular economy practices. It will develop AI systems to track waste, optimise resources, and measure sustainability through new performance indicators.

The research also aims to set industry guidelines and policies for sustainable construction. Findings will guide global practices.

This builds on previous research and aligns with Northumbria’s leadership in AI, including its £9 million Citizen-Centred AI Centre.
