Planary vote on the EPBD establishes an even more ambitious position of the European Commission

Editorial Team

The plenary vote of the European Parliament on 14th March about the EPBD has led to even more ambitious targets to negotiate with EU Member States. Under this text, all new buildings should be climate neutral by 2028 at the latest while existing buildings will have to comply with Minimum Energy Performance Standards.

In particular, it is requested that all existing building to achieve at least efficiency class E by 2030 and D by 2033 (2027 and 2030 for non-residential and public building respectively). Member States will have to set higher standards for those buildings after that date and for the rest of the stock.
