The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), part of the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, evaluates a building's capacity to use smart technologies for energy efficiency and environmental responsiveness

In November 2024, Portugal joined 14 other EU countries in launching SRI trials to address implementation challenges, refine tools, and align with Energy Performance Certificates

Supported by LIFE Clean Energy Transition projects, these trials aim to standardise methods, train evaluators, and expand tests.

A 2026 report will inform future SRI adoption. The SRI promotes energy efficiency, adaptability, and grid responsiveness, supporting the EU's clean energy and climate neutrality goals.
