The European Commission has concluded its review of the public procurement directives, aiming to assess their effectiveness and suitability in addressing current challenges. This evaluation covers the regulatory framework governing both concession contracts and strategic sectors, intending to enhance transparency, competition, and efficiency across procurement processes within the European Union.

In line with the goals of the European Green Deal, the ENERGATE projecthas put forward recommendations to incorporate energy efficiency criteria into public purchasing procedures. These proposals seek to position public procurement as a key instrument in accelerating the energy transition.

The Commission is expected to present a revised legislative proposal in the third quarter of 2025.
