On the occasion of COP29 in Baku, experts from over 100 institutions issued a call for urgent collaboration between scientists and policymakers to help the building sector meet net-zero emissions by 2030.

With 3 billion people needing sustainable housing by that date, the sector’s role is critical, as it accounts for 40% of energy-related emissions. Current reduction efforts fall short, highlighting the need for policies backed by science.

Led by institutions like Aalto University and endorsed by UNEP, the initiative urges a global, interdisciplinary approach to create legally binding net-zero targets, ensuring practical solutions for diverse socio-economic contexts.

A call to action invites supporters to endorse science-driven climate solutions.
