A new Californian initiative to make renewable energy accessible to low-income homes

A California initiative is bringing solar power to low-income households in Oakland. The Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (Somah) program, backed by $100 million in annual public funding, has successfully installed solar panels in over 100 projects.

Among the beneficiaries, also affordable housing complex for low-income seniors, who have seen a significant reduction in their electricity bill. The Somah program aims to power 300 megawatts through new solar projects on low-income rental buildings across California by 2030.
