Stronger rules to boost energy efficiency have been agreed by the EU

Editorial Team

The European Commission has just reached a provisional agreement with the European Parliament and the Council to boost the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), showing once again the main aim to become climate neutral. Moreover, for the first time, the Energy Efficiency Principle has been given legal strength.

The agreement establishes also an EU energy efficiency target of 11.7% for 2030, going even beyond what was agreed in FitFor55 proposal, and doubles the annual energy savings obligation to EU countries.
