The building renovation sector is undergoing a major transformation, driven by the need for energy efficiency and sustainability. A key innovation in this shift is the rise of modular and industrialised solutions, which accelerate renovation processes while maintaining high quality. These advancements not only streamline construction but also address the urgent demand for energy-efficient building envelopes and systems.

However, the success of these solutions hinges on a skilled workforce equipped with the latest green and digital technologies. Vocational Education and Training (VET) plays a crucial role in bridging the skills gap by providing professionals with cutting-edge knowledge and practical expertise in energy-efficient renovations.

This is where the SHERLOCK project steps in. With 17 leading partners from 8 EU countries, SHERLOCK is dedicated to upskilling professionals in building energy retrofitting and finance. The project is designing and piloting micro-programmes based on micro-credentials, ensuring flexible and targeted learning opportunities tailored to industry needs. By integrating real-world case studies, these programmes equip learners with the skills to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges.

By aligning VET initiatives with the evolving demands of the building renovation sector, projects like SHERLOCK are shaping a workforce capable of driving the energy transition—enhancing the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of renovation projects across Europe.
