Wales: £10 million to support Smart Local Energy System
The Welsh Government launched a £10 million grant scheme to support community-driven Smart Local Energy Systems, aiming for 100% renewable electricity by 2035, boosting energy efficiency, and enhancing community resilience.
The Welsh Government has introduced a £10 million capital grant scheme to support Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) in Wales, aligning with the goal of generating 100% renewable electricity by 2035. Open to community energy groups, social enterprises, public bodies, and SMEs, the scheme encourages innovative projects that integrate local energy generation, storage and infrastructure, reducing energy costs and boosting efficiency.
Cabinet Secretary of Economy and Energy Ken Skates emphasised the scheme's role in decarbonising energy and enhancing community resilience.
Insights from these projects will inform the Ynni Cymru (Welsh for 'Energy Wales') programme, established in 2023, to promote local ownership of renewable energy assets.
