Driving sustainable digital workflows: exploring open BIM, data standards, and energy efficiency innovations
On Thursday, December 05, BUILD UP hosted a webinar organised with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) on ‘Driving sustainable digital workflows: exploring open BIM, data standards, and energy efficiency innovations’. The webinar shed light on some key technologies needed for digital planning workflows.
The event started with an introduction about the current activities of the data standard ECLASS in the direction of BIM and sustainability themes made by Lindner André, Senior Consultant at ECLASS. Linder outlined the objectives of using ECLASS in the construction industry and related areas such as Industry 4.0.
During the second session, Mirbek Bekboliev, Technical Project Manager at BuildingSMART, presented an advanced open BIM workflow, focusing on the latest developments in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Building Energy Modeling (BEM).
Finally, Gerhard Zucker, Senior Scientist at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and Operating Agent of Annex 91 presented the IEA EBC Annex 91 ‘Open BIM for energy efficient buildings’ initiative. ‘This project solves the problem of digital data exchange between different stakeholders during the entire life cycle of a building using open BIM’, explained Zucker.
The session was concluded with a lively Q&A session with the audience, which further explored the necessity to strengthen the implementation of BIM, as well as the connections between the Green Deal and the relevance of data in the building sector.
