Cross-laminated timber building in Norway
St. Olavs vei 18, a groundbreaking residential project in Kristiansand, Norway, exemplifies Scandinavia's innovation in mass timber construction. Designed by Oslotre, it's the city's first residential cross-laminated timber (CLT) building, featuring five stories with 28 apartments, each under 40 square meters.
The design prioritises natural light, employing parametric modeling tools to create a unique floorplan geometry. The facade boasts oiled cedarwood, chosen for durability and aesthetic contrast. Oslotre's focus on material efficiency in CLT construction aims to minimise wood usage while optimising living spaces. Completed in just one year, the project emphasises local sourcing for sustainability.
