The Portland International Airport (PDX) unveiled its $2 billion main terminal expansion, designed by ZGF. Spanning one million square feet and featuring a nine-acre mass timber roof, this expansion aims to double PDX’s capacity to 35 million passengers annually by 2045. The terminal’s design highlights Pacific Northwest aesthetics, incorporating natural light, tree-lined plazas, and plant-filled spaces.
Using 3.5 million board feet of locally sourced wood, the project reduces embodied carbon by 70% and enhances energy efficiency with an all-electric ground-source heat pump.
The ongoing second phase will add retail, dining, and additional exit lanes by early 2026.
