Cnoc Na Gaoithe, a historic convent in Co. Clare, Ireland, built in 1883, has been transformed into a model of heritage preservation and modernisation with the help of BUSGoCircular project. The renovation project turned it into an Irish music and cultural centre with guest rooms. The building, a heritage-listed two-story structure, now boasts enhanced comfort, reduced carbon emissions, and a commitment to sustainability.
Mentoring was provided to installers to ensure adherence to circular principles during the renovation. Measures included selectively removing and repairing windows, reusing sashes for a glass house and heritage house, retaining existing insulation, and repurposing removed plaster for local footpaths.
The project involved various upgrades, including energy-efficient heating with heat pump, window and door replacements, floor and attic insulation, and more. The heat pump reduces CO2 emissions, and there are plans to install PV and storage batteries to supply renewable energy.
All this renovation process demonstrates the successful collaboration between TUS and BUSGoCircular in implementing circular principles for heritage preservation and sustainability.
