WEDISTRICT video: Retrofitting of an Inefficient Section of a District Heating System
The European Horizon2020 project W.E.District aims to integrate multiple sources of renewable energy and excess heat at three demonstration sites in Rumania, Sweden and Spain under different climatic conditions across Europe to showcase solutions for 100% fossil-free district heating and cooling systems.

The video shows the demo site at the University Politehnica of Bucharest where a section of the district heating system has been retrofitted with a combination of many different renewable energy technologies – geothermal energy combined with solar energy and an intelligent energy management system. This demonstrator is flexible and with its open-source software transferable to many real-live situations. This software is available for free to anyone who would like to use it or modify it.
